Jobless Julie is a daily journal of the antics, miseries and overall funnyness that comes with losing your job in one of the worst recessions America has ever seen. I learned on May 27th that my job was being relocated to Pittsburgh, but fortunately for me, I didn’t actually stop working until October 15th due to quite a few extensions and overall poor planning on my company’s part. Their bad organization was certainly my gain. The blogging began on June 8th, when I realized how drastically the notion of being unemployed was going to alter my everday life – do I really need those shoes? Is dinner out for the 4th night in a row really a good idea? Well, now the notion has turned into reality and as such, I felt this blog needed a new ‘About’ me section since the old one started with “Jobless Julie isn’t exactly Jobless at the moment”
Well, Jobless Julie is most certainly Jobless now, but this blog won’t be filled with bitter antics about the unjustness of corporate America. It will likely be filled with the difficult decisions one faces when they are unemployed: Should I go to the gym now or wait until Regis and Kelly is over?
Enjoy and feel free to check out the original “About” section below…
To be totally fair… Julie is not exactly jobless at the moment, the true joblessness won’t come until August 31, my ”Official Release Date” according to the gen.u.ine corporate America memo that I received. So – for the next 2.5 months I am going to be working my regular full time job which is sort of weird (I equate it to living with someone after you break up, that’s not a situation that ever ends well) and I will also be looking for a job which is pretty much a full time job in itself and just because that didn’t sound like enough on my plate, I thought I’d start this blog. It may or may not entertain you, but it will provide some comic relief and a venting forum for me, which I’m pretty certain I’m going to need because let’s be honest – its ugly out there. But here I come unemployed America – I have my resume in hand, interview suit hanging in the waiting and just enough ignorance/conceitedness to think I might pull this off.
I FLIPPIN LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!!!! Thank you sooo much for adding humor to my search for the meaning of life and employment. If you get picked up by some big publishing firm to write a book I would like to interview for your publicist because you are a comedic genius my friend!!!
Hi Julie,
Love your blog! I am an editor at The Tennessean/Tennessean.com, where we are working on a multimedia project about people in your very situation who may (or may not be) finding ways to move on in their personal lives even through the recession may have pressed the pause button on their professional lives. We would love to involve you in this project by showcasing your blog on a microsite we are developing. If you are interested, please call me at 259-8209.
And best wishes in your job search.
Julie,
Just stumbled on your blog, and I’m excited to find you. As someone who has been blogging about my unemployment since I was laid off back in June of this year. It’s *great* to be able to share some humor & levity in the midst of a really crappy situation. I say *great* because I doubt you can correctly use this word to define anything that’s related to unemployment.
Anyhow, I’ll be checking out some of your posts and I wish you the best of luck with your job search.
Feel free to check out my blog if you happen to “have some free time”!!

Hey. I’m a jobless Julie myself. Yes. Julie is my real name. I enjoy reading your blog and feeling for a while like I have a running partner in the unemployed track. Thank you so much for the humour. And best wishes in whatever endeavour.
